Born into a musical family, Gennaro Aiello, better known as Joyello, appeared on stage for the first time ever in 1974, as rhythm kazoo for the freak power combo, The Frigos fronted by the legendary Tina Frigo, Joy's mother. After a lengthy apprenticeship with The Frigos, in 1979 Joy struck out for new musical horizons with his own line up, The Joy Yellow Band, an ersatz punk group that inevitably burnt themselves out leaving only one record for posterity.
The Joy Yellow split marked the beginning of a new musical career for Joy and a series of unparalleled successes that none, apart from his mother perhaps, could ever have imagined.
In 1983 he ran into Santi B. in a television studio and together they formed a formidable song and dance partnership that over the years saw countless avant garde projects spring from their fingers and toes, including the immensely successful Boccone Youth, Bresaolas, Papafrols, O Trio and Bittersweet Memories, which hardly need any introduction here.
In 1990 the duo joined Steve Benaglia's Le Madri della Psicanalisi and together the five-strong powerhouse went from strength to strength, culminating in the unforgettable farewell concert in Hamburg where the band fronted an all star cast including MINO REITANO AND HIS BROTHERS, SANTO CALIFORNIA, PUNTO MORTO SUPERIORE and the ANALISI DI UN DIPINTO.
After the break up of the Madri, rumours circulated that Joy had left the music business forever, but luckily for all groovers everywhere, the new millennium brought the formation of the Cheesy Orchestra and now this musical legend is well and truly back where it's at.
The rest, of course, is history.
