Fernando Delicado Saõ Tanburo was born in Matera, Italy in Via Castello, on the first of July 1966, the same day on which Stanley Turrentine recorded his watershed versions of "Walk on by" and "Shake".

Fruit of the stormy marriage between Pasquale Cencio Delicado and Edda Mastrocinque, he had a difficult childhood exchanging spells at the Potenza orphanage for a series of unsatisfactory jobs. At the age of sixteen he left Italy for Brazil, where he settled into a life of petty crime on the streets of Bahia, scraping together a living by selling empty boxes during the day, playing a tight set of drums at night and selling totally fake stories of death and depravity to local newspapers on the weekend.

In January 1993 Fernando was told in no uncertain terms that he had 24 hours to leave the country, a short-sighted affront which, luckily for us, brought this prodigious talent back to Italy.

He started working as a session musician in a number of jazz clubs on the East Coast of Sicily, where in 1994 he ran into Frankie Amore, and the two hucksters struck up an immediate friendship. At this point it was only a matter of a time before the Cheesy Orchestra fronted by Messina boss Joyello hit the stage. The rest, of course, is history.
